Wayne County Leaders Aim to Modernize Voting Process

WAYNE COUNTY, Mississippi (WDAM) - Officials in Wayne County are striving to enhance the voting experience for residents as they reach their polling stations.
At present, poll workers are utilizing pens and paper to verify voters' identities.
The introduction of new equipment would automate the entire procedure, enabling employees to look up names throughout the county.
Kathryn Revette, the Wayne County Circuit Clerk, mentioned that these devices will assist in resolving certain problems where voters end up at an incorrect polling location.
“If you go in and your name is not on the poll book, then the poll workers will call us and we pull up the voter (roll) and tell them which precinct to go to,” Revette said. “It’ll cut out all of the back and forth, basically. You would go straight in.
They will have the ability to look up your name. Should you find yourself in the incorrect precinct, you can perform a county-wide search for their names instead, and they will immediately inform you of the correct precinct where you should be.
The machines are awaiting approval from the Wayne County Board of Supervisors.
The decision will be made during next month’s gathering.
