U.S. Sources: Ukrainian Drones Hit Major Explosives Plant in Russia
This facility stands out as a top producer of industrial explosives within both Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States, where they manufacture materials like ammonal, ammonite, and granulite. Reports indicate that at least 20 explosions occurred onsite, accompanied by several fires. As a result, the plant’s leadership had no choice but to cease all production activities.
The SBU keeps conducting precise attacks on Russian installations that are part of the military-industrial sector and manufacture weaponry used in the conflict against Ukraine, according to an NV intelligence source. These targets are considered entirely legitimate military objectives.
Previously, Andriy Kovalenko, who leads the Center for Counteracting Disinformation within Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, verified that SBU drones targeted the Optic Fiber Systems facility in Saransk, located in the Republic of Mordovia, on the same night.
Kovalenko states that the facility’s output is widely utilized in Russia’s military infrastructure for communication purposes, data transmission, and setting up protected links — this includes controlling unmanned vehicles as well as managing military command systems.
The Russian Defense Ministry stated that their anti-aircraft systems reportedly intercepted 49 drones within the night, with three of those being shot down above Mordovia.
