TikTok's Fate Delayed Once More: Users Quip About Endless Loops of Uncertainty

President Donald Trump disclosed that TikTok has been granted an extension of 75 more days to finalize the sale. The company behind TikTok, ByteDance, must divest its U.S. operations by June 19, 2025; otherwise, they could face a ban—unless we receive an extra 75 days added to this deadline.

It marks the second time the deadline has been extended. Originally set for January, it was first shifted to April, giving the firm extra time to organize everything. Since the transaction remains uncompleted, the deadline has been delayed once more.

The deadline for action was pushed back following expressions of interest from major American firms like Amazon and Blackstone in purchasing TikTok’s operations within the U.S.

TikTok faces potential prohibition because the Supreme Court has expressed worries about national security.

Ever since TikTok first faced the possibility of being banned, it has become a major subject of online memes. People have been joking about what they’d do if the platform were actually shut down. Some believe that the app will likely never face such a fate, while others remain indifferent to claims regarding data breaches associated with the application.

Initially, when rumors of the ban started circulating, some users quickly signed up for an alternative Chinese application called RedNote, anticipating TikTok’s possible prohibition.

Now that the ban has been postponed again for an additional 75 days, users are still responding with memes, stating that TikTok will never get banned. Rather, they think it will just continue getting extended for another 75 more days repeatedly.

Social media reacts as TikTok ban gets 75-day extension

Internet users jestingly say that when those 75 days conclude, the prohibition will likely just be prolonged—perhaps repeatedly so. They believe TikTok finds itself in an uncertain position, neither fully banned nor completely secure.

Due to the difficulty in finalizing an agreement for the app, many believe that the restriction will just be prolonged endlessly.

An X user @Einthedarkness mentioned:

Are they going to keep doing this every 75 days?

A user @mind_talkss humorously suggested:

It will continue until his term ends.

Another user @BoujeeNcvnt added:

After those initial 75 days end, they add another 75 days, correct? Ijbol.

One user @BharatX20 said:

"Another delay-TikTok’s limbo continues."

A few users jokingly suggested that maybe nobody actually wants to buy TikTok, despite its massive potential as a business opportunity. The rest compared the repeated extensions of deadlines to in-game perks that keep getting extended indefinitely.

Users jokingly suggested that someone might create a dance trend capable of saving TikTok from potential bans.

A user @forkyishere stated:

It seems nobody is actually interested LOL.

Another user @PhiThaGreat asked:

Is anyone going to purchase it or not?

One user @OmniraAi joked:

TikTok is adding executive roles left and right as if it’s a mobile game with in-app deadlines.

A user @BourbEnthusiasm suggested:

75 additional days to discover the dance craze that will rescue us all.

A number of users shared memes indicating that TikTok is unlikely to face an actual ban. Some compared this situation to that one task you repeatedly promise yourself you’ll finish over the weekend but somehow never get around to doing.

Initially, the user felt that things were stagnant from the start.

One user @ultronymous quipped:

I managed to get an extension on my homework after promising my instructor I would finish it over the weekend.

President Trump has expressed hope that a buyer for TikTok’s operations in the U.S. will be found quickly, which would avoid further bans and remove it from ongoing regulatory uncertainty.
