Pangani Girls High: Tuition Fees, KCSE Results & Essential Contact Info

Pangani Girls High School is one of the leading public girls' secondary institutions in Kenya at the national level. The school’s roots go back to before Kenya gained independence, as it was founded in 1932.

Initially called the Duchess of Gloucester School, the institution was renamed to pay tribute to the late Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester.

Back then, the institution mainly catered to the Asian population, who still live in neighborhoods like Ngara, Pangani, and Parklands within Nairobi.

Initially, the school provided the Cambridge and Advanced Cambridge School Certificates — qualifications that equated to today’s 'O' and 'A' level educations.

After Kenya gained independence in 1963, the institution was retitled as Pangani Girls High School and started slowly admitting African students over time.

Initially a day school exclusively for girls, Pangani underwent a transformation in 1986 when it became a boarding institution before being categorized as a provincial school.

After gaining independence, the Kenyan government implemented a regional educational system, transitioning away from the racially segregated framework that was utilized during colonial times.

The history of Pangani Girls High School

Following independence, schools formerly divided along racial lines—those designated for Whites only, Indians only, and Africans only—were redesignated as national, provincial, and district-level institutions, respectively.

In 2011, Pangani Girls High School was upgraded to a national institution with an expanded mission to deliver high-quality secondary education to female students nationwide.

Ever since then, the institution has progressively expanded to become one of Kenya’s leading public schools, particularly during the tenure of Ruth Cheruiyot, who has now retired from her position.

Currently, the institution accepts students from every part of Kenya and remains a favored option for numerous high achievers who excel in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination.

Year after year, Pangani Girls High School has reliably held one of the top 20 spots nationwide in the KCSE exams. The institution has also been home to several students who have ranked highly across the country.

An additional 83 candidates achieved a B-, 19 obtained a C+, and merely one student got a C. The least score documented was a C-, which was accomplished by only five students.

Pangani Girls High School achieved a notable average score of 9.841 in the 2024 KCSE, with 98.54% of its students securing direct admission to universities.

This showed a minor decrease of 0.048 from the school’s average score of 9.889 in 2023, but it confirmed Pangani's sustained academic distinction at the national level.

School Fees

The government had earlier released guidelines to unify the yearly school charges that parents must pay for all public high schools.

In line with the new directives issued by the Ministry of Education in 2020, Kenya divided its 103 national schools into four groups.

Pangani Girls High School fell into Cluster One, where the yearly tuition cost was set at around Ksh75,798—this fee cap matched that of other national schools within Cluster One.

Nevertheless, the actual fees might differ somewhat among educational institutions because of extra expenses imposed at the institutional level, including uniforms, motivational fees, and costs associated with after-school activities.
