Last February, Mowbray unexpectedly resigned from his position as the manager of Birmingham following some medical procedures. During his treatment, he had 15 centimeters of his intestine surgically removed.

After overseeing eight matches, he stepped away temporarily but ultimately left the position for good in May when he formally resigned.

The 61-year-old individual, having coached numerous English teams, is currently recuperating after undergoing an operation. He has also shared details about his challenges over the past eighteen months with the public.

He explained that his main concern was ensuring his family members were handling the circumstances effectively, even demonstrating to his spouse how to utilize their banking application.

However, it was equally about his children, as Mowbray disclosed during an interview with The Times , feared the worst.

I discussed it with my loved ones, and it was clear they were scared," he stated. "As for myself, fear wasn’t what I felt; all I cared about was ensuring my family—my three kids and my wife—were safe and sound.

I had to get everything organized, and I did my best. My wife encountered our banking application for the very first time ever. These small details matter. She grasped the importance of it all. The situation was quite serious. I believed she should be aware of where our funds were kept—whether they were ISAs or pensions—and how much we had in the bank.

When discussing his diagnosis, which followed an incident where he fell while attempting to open the door, he mentioned, "My spouse placed me into the vehicle and transported me back to the hospital. They were curious about my collapses and overall state," he explains. "The medical staff replenished my fluids and kept me on a drip throughout the night."

I recall sitting in bed with my children, and their eyes were welling up. They were terrified I wouldn’t make it through. Just how old were they at that time? They were 15, 17, and 19 years old. The fear was clearly visible in their eyes.

Mowbray frequently visits the gym these days to rebuild his strength. After shedding almost five stone during his treatment, he has regained about two-and-a-half stone.
