Moonlit Magic Unveiled: SongRaw's Stunning 50mm F1.2 Lens Makes Its Debut

A fresh lens manufacturer from China has emerged, offering an expanded range of autofocus lenses designed specifically for mirrorless cameras. Dubbed SongRaw The company’s motto declares, “Created with Commitment, Embracing Your Zeal and Affection,” further noting its commitment to “perfecting each aspect of the craftsmanship.” Initially, they have unveiled a speedy 50mm lens which they assert is the inaugural Chinese-made 50mm F1.2 full-frame autofocus mirrorless lens.

SongRaw’s first lens is a full-frame model that delivers the traditional 50mm focal length along with a large aperture for achieving a narrow depth of field and improved low-light capabilities. This lens includes 13 diaphragm blades, reportedly ensuring “stunning bokeh,” according to SongRaw. Equipped with an autofocus system driven by a stepping motor, this feature is said to work well with eye-tracing technology. Additionally, it has the ability to focus as near as 0.52 meters (or approximately 20.5 inches) and supports 72mm filter attachments.

The optical configuration consists of 15 elements arranged into 10 groups. There seems to be some confusion regarding the specialized components; one source states that there are two aspherical elements, whereas another mentions an additional two extra-low dispersion elements. However, it’s not unlikely for a single lens to feature both types. Unfortunately, SongRaw did not offer any specifics about the dimensions or mass of the lens.

The lens has "Moonlit" inscribed on it, and the company's barebones website includes that branding Images of the lens reveal an aperture ring as well as a toggle marked “click,” indicating that the aperture ring might have a click-stop mechanism for precise adjustments or may operate smoothly without clicks. Additionally, there’s an AF/MF switch and possibly a function button visible.

According to SongRaw, the 50mm prime lens will support FE-mount, Z-mount, and L-mount; however, they are giving priority to the Sony version. Users of Nikon and L-mount systems might have to wait some additional time. displaying the lens at NAB , allowing those attending the event to see it firsthand. The lens is expected to retail for approximately $1000 and will likely hit stores by mid-April or sooner.
