Leaked: Early Specs Reveal Key Updates for the 2026 BMW R 1300 RT

Anticipate the release following this week's unveiling of the R 1300 R.

We are just a few days away from the launch of the 2026 R 1300 R Roadster However, that hasn’t deterred us from peeking into what’s coming next for BMW, as we’ve gotten early access to some preliminary tech specs of their upcoming R 1300 RT sports tourer.

  • The 2026 BMW R 1300 R will be Unveiled on April 10th
  • BMW R 1300 R, R 1300 RS, R 1300 RT confirmed for release in 2026

We received this information through certification data from Switzerland, where they have recently included initial specs for the R 1300 RT.

The data shows that the RT will feature identical engine tuning to the R 1300 GS, delivering 145 horsepower at 7,750 revolutions per minute and torque of 110 pound-feet at 6,500 rpm. In contrast, according to the same Swiss registry, the R 1250 RT produces 134 horsepower at 7,750 rpm and offers 105.5 pound-feet of torque at 6,250 rpm.

BMW usually equips the RT models with its most recent innovations, so we anticipate Automated Shift Assistant Will be an available feature, alongside active cruise control enhanced with radar support.

The R 1300 RT measures at 88.8 inches in length, making it marginally longer compared to the previous version with an 87.2-inch frame for the R 1250 RT (as shown previously). However, this newer variant has a width of only 38.2 inches—a reduction of 0.7 inch when measured against its forebear. When considering their wet weights along with standard rider load—assuming about 165 pounds—and some basic add-ons, the new bike tips the scales significantly more heavily than the older one; however, part of this variance might be attributed to additional components like a top box as opposed to just side bags being factored into the equation. Without specific details regarding which supplementary features come pre-installed on the 2026 edition versus those found on last year’s model, we will refrain from drawing conclusions until BMW releases confirmed specifications related to dry weight measurements.

The certification information also indicates broader rear wheels, as evidenced by the R 1300 RT which comes equipped with a 190/55 tire mounted on a 6.00x17 wheel, whereas the R 1250 RT uses an 180/55 tire along with a smaller 5.50x17 wheel.

Based on the The March 27 announcement regarding the R 12 G/S and R 1300 R reveal set for April 10, it looks like BMW is scheduling its early 2026 model reveals for every two Thursdays. If this pattern continues, we should expect the R 1300 RT to be announced April 24, with the 2026 R 1300 RS sportbike to come on May 8.
