LCRA Employees Donate Their Time to Transform Central Texas Communities

Staff from the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) donated their time on Friday to participate in community initiatives in Travis and Williamson counties.
The project was included in the LCRA's "Steps Forward Day," which occurs every year as a day dedicated to community service. On this occasion, workers tackled 40 initiatives across 35 towns located within LCRA's service area.
In Pflugerville, staff members dedicated approximately several hours to clearing away deceased trees, brush, and debris from the edges of Gilleland Creek. A volunteer named Summer Fish mentioned that contributing back is an essential aspect of the LCRA’s ethos.
About ten years have passed since it began, and our general manager, Phil Wilson, was keen on finding methods for us to contribute back to the communities we serve," she explained. "This marks our tenth anniversary, and we’re thrilled to be participating.
Fish mentioned that she also has a personal link to the Pflugerville project.
She mentioned, 'I’m originally from Pflugerville.' She continued, ‘We’ve likely resided here since around 2007, within the Pflugerville area, and I genuinely enjoy having the opportunity to contribute to this local community where I have brought my children over the years to enjoy the parks.’
At the same time, in downtown Liberty Hill, volunteers removed weeds from flowerbeds, replenished old mulch and landscaping stones, and added new flowers. In Round Rock, staff members scattered wood chips around the playground and coated railings, gates, fences, and doors with fresh paint at the Hall of Fame Softball Complex. Meanwhile, in Buda, volunteers established a pollinator garden within Stagecoach Park.
Staff members were involved in initiatives across various locations including Bastrop, Buchanan Dam, Buda, Dripping Springs, Flatonia, Fredericksburg, Giddings, Horseshoe Bay, Kingsland, Kyle, La Grange, Lexington, Liberty Hill, Lockhart, Luling, Marble Falls, Mason, Pflugerville, Round Rock, San Marcos, Schulenburg, Smithville, and Wimberley, along with several additional areas beyond the KVUE broadcast region.
In 2015, the LCRA initiated the Steps Forward volunteer initiative.
