He Lost Control of Dad's Ford GT During a Wild Miata Chase

The Ford GT driver allegedly lost control while pursuing a Mazda MX-5 on rural roads.

Mount Horeb, Wisconsin, doesn't merely boast a whimsical moniker and an affinity for trolls; it is encircled by top-notch driving routes as well. This was among the attractions that lured a handful of automobile aficionados for a relaxed excursion not long ago. The majority returned satisfied. Yet, one participant faced more challenges, particularly the individual at the helm of a particular vehicle. Ford GT who finished the day away from the road and deep in the woods.

The reason? He apparently attempted to pursue a Mazda MX-5. The twist: the Ford GT didn’t belong to him at all; it belonged to his father.

Somewhat hilariously posted to Reddit with the title “Saw one out in the wild, literally”, this Ford GT has clearly seen better days. In the photo, it sits on a forest slope. Leaf litter is everywhere, aside from right in front of the tires. That suggests that it slid into this position backwards. Luckily, a couple of people who claimed to witness the whole thing were kind enough to share more of the story.

Dad’s Supercar, Kid’s Problem

According to those on the scene, the GT driver was trying to catch up to someone in a Mazda When things took a turn for the worse with an MX-5 – quite literally. Although the driver lost control of his father's vehicle, he didn’t have to face the music from his parent. The man’s father happened to be following closely behind in a Corvette ZR-1.

Even with the off-road diversion, the extent of the damage was unexpectedly slight. The vehicle requires a replacement for both its side skirt and its magnesium alloy wheel, which got harmed during the retrieval operation. Interestingly, the American supercar remained sufficiently intact not to necessitate being towed back. A witness suggested that it might require realignment though. It’s safe to say they dodged quite a few potential issues.

This version of the Ford GT is highly favored within the realm of supercars . Even now that it’s not the latest and greatest, it still regularly trades for over $350,000 on the used market. That’s well over double what Ford originally asked for the car when it was brand new.

We're pleased that everybody left this incident unharmed. It would be ideal for the driver to show some additional modesty, however. His actions were dangerously close to destroying an excellent vehicle or potentially causing injury to himself or others. Let’s ensure such driving remains confined to racetracks going forward. This young man appears well-equipped with the means to follow that path henceforth.
