France Considers Tech as a Potential Component in US Tariff Reactions

France’s Finance Minister, Eric Lombard, stated that going after US technology companies is merely part of a potential reaction to Donald Trump’s tariffs, with no final decision having been made as of yet.

The European Commission President, Ursula von der Leyen, has indicated that imposing taxes on American digital services might be considered if negotiations to reduce tariff tensions do not succeed.

In the range of options available to us, some might pertain to the digital sector without going into specifics," Lombard stated during an informal discussion alongside a gathering with EU financial officials in Warsaw. They also have preferences for certain initiatives over others," Lombard explained. "It wouldn’t be appropriate to discuss red lines since this is a collaborative effort, just like all our activities within the European Union.
