E-Bikes and Scooters Make a Comeback in St. Paul

Rideshare electric scooters and bikes have returned to St. Paul.

Lime and Spin have made their electric bikes and scooters accessible for rental in both Minneapolis and St. Paul.

As per the accord ratified by the St. Paul City Council on April 9, the ride-sharing services will be accessible from April until November 15th.

Should the vendors choose to prolong their operating season until the end of the year, they must present a winter operation strategy to the municipality.

Minneapolis has opted for a pilot program to provide the e-bikes and e-scooters year-round, as it permits Lime and Spin to keep the vehicles available into the winter as weather allows.

Each company will offer Class 1 throttle-assist e-bikes along with Class 2 pedaled electric bikes in both locations.

According to data provided by Lime, over 800,000 riders have taken 4.5 million trips on its e-scooters in the Twin Cities since Lime launched here in 2018. Last year, ridership on shared e-scooters and e-bikes increased 59% from 2023 to 2024 for a total of 1.5 million rides between St. Paul and Minneapolis, the company's best year to date.

“We’re thrilled to retain the confidence of leadership and residents in both Minneapolis and Saint Paul to return for the long-term, and we’re hoping to continue to build on our momentum as provider of choice to residents and visitors alike," Lime's senior director of government and community relations, LeAaron Foley, said. "We became the first provider of regional shared micromobility throughout the Twin Cities in 2024 and riders have thrived on the connectivity we provide."
