Don't Rush to Use Those New T Fare Vending Machines—Here's Why

If you've noticed the new Charlie Card fare vending machines at Orange Line stations, feel free to observe but not use them just yet.

The updated card system will enable passengers to refill their Charlie Cards with both monetary values and passes via the internet and through newly installed machines. Authorities from the transit department claim that this enhanced payment method will enhance user satisfaction.

The Orange Line was the initial route to receive the updated silver and blue fare vending machines. The transit authority intends to introduce these machines at all remaining stations in the future.

"As we proceed with enhancing our payment systems, we will start deploying new fare vending machines (FVMs) on the Orange Line initially before rolling them out further. Currently, these new FVMs are being tested exclusively; passengers must still utilize the current FVMs to purchase and refill their travel cards," according to T officials. wrote Wednesday on X.
