Director of Taylor Swift's Tour Film Tackles Remake of "The Bodyguard"

A revival for a movie that won over audiences and had millions humming along in the '90s is in the works: The romantic drama "The Bodyguard" is slated for a remake, with director Sam Wrench (34), who helmed Taylor Swift's (35) concert documentary "Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour," at the helm. This news was shared by trade publication "Deadline" and various media outlets.
The cast members set to appear in the reboot of the 1992 movie have not been revealed yet. The initial version featured Kevin Costner (aged 70 at present) alongside Whitney Houston (born 1963, passed away 2012) in principal roles. Warner Bros. has engaged Jonathan A. Abrams, known for penning the screenplay of "Juror #2," as the new screenwriter.
The remake has been in production since 2011.
Development for a reboot of the movie—which centers around an ex-Secret Service member tasked with safeguarding a renowned musician from a obsessed fan—has been ongoing since 2011. The initial film ranked as the year’s second-biggest blockbuster at the box office in 1992 and earned two Academy Award nominations.
The movie showcased Whitney Houston's rendition of Dolly Parton's classic song "I Will Always Love You," becoming one of the late artist's most successful singles. Additionally, the accompanying album featured tracks such as "I'm Every Woman," "Queen of the Night," along with the Oscar-nominated songs "Run to You" and "I Have Nothing."
Sam Wrench is quite experienced with musical films: In addition to directing "Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour," which holds the title of the highest-grossing concert movie ever, he has also helmed productions for artists like Billie Eilish, BTS, and Lizzo, along with "A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter."
