Aussie Camper's Heartwarming Rescue of Stranded Emu: 'I Had to Help!'

The majority of other campers at a bustling campground were fast asleep when an Australian pair found themselves alone and thrilled to have the spot all to themselves. Suddenly, an emu dashed by a line of caravans, sprinting about as frantically as a chicken without its head, clearly in urgent need of assistance. Any hopes they had for a leisurely morning vanished instantly.
Former farmer Linda Lowe along with her partner Mark They sold their sheep farm 15 months ago and have been traveling ever since. However, her expertise in handling livestock remained exceptional, which positioned her well to offer assistance and led her to make the courageous choice to step in.
"The absurd little thing had a violet trash sack over its head. They frequently jam their heads into garbage bins," Linda explained to Yahoo News on Thursday.

Why does the emu have a sack over its head?
Emus frequently gather at the campgrounds in Monkey Mia, which lies 745 kilometres north of Perth, due to their knack for raiding rubbish bins and receiving food handouts from visitors. This accustomed behavior poses issues for these wild creatures since it may result in them getting hit by vehicles, falling prey to domesticated animals, and consuming an unbalanced diet.
"You can see them all over the place. Despite the warning signs, people are still feeding them and providing water," she explained.
In Queensland, A man was assaulted by a cassowary standing 1.6 metres tall. Last week, after trying to obtain food from him, the incident has caused residents in the remote northern town to lock themselves indoors out of fear.

Second only to ostriches as the tallest birds globally, emus have been known to reach nearly two meters in height. Naturally, Linda felt somewhat reluctant about getting near such an imposing creature initially. However, she had observed earlier that the bird was tending to a clutch of chicks, which motivated her to assist him nonetheless.

"He was a large fellow. However, I couldn't just let him stay that way," she explained.
Recalling that emus possess narrow fields of view, she moved toward the bird from the side. "I kept my arm steady, removed the sack, and away he flew," she recounted.
