Annoyed by Strict Limits, Users Ditch Anthropics $200/Month Homework Copy of OpenAI
As generative AI scales greater heights and becomes more advanced, it continues to demand more resources, including more computing power with the rising demand for GPUs among major AI labs, cooling water, and operational costs.
Last year, during OpenAI's 12 Days of Shipmas , the creator of ChatGPT introduced a new subscription plan priced at $200 per month named ChatGPT Pro The subscription plan includes unrestricted access to OpenAI’s premium models, featuring their O1 reasoning model designed to tackle the most complex challenges effectively.
Now, Anthropics has entered the competition with a fresh subscription option known as the Max plan , specifically for individuals who frequently work closely with Claude and require increased permissions for their key projects.
Similar to OpenAI’s ChatGPT Pro plan, Anthropic’s newest subscription level will be priced at $200 per month, offering users preferential access to the most recent features and models. Interestingly, this new package is divided into two categories: " Extended Applications" and "Unmatched Adaptability."
The initial tier comes at a cost of $100 per month and offers five times the usage compared to the Pro plan. The subsequent tier, priced at $200 monthly, provides twenty times the usage of the Pro plan. According to Anthropic, this higher-tier plan is known as the Maximum Flexibility level. Perfect for everyday users who frequently work alongside Claude for most activities.
Anthropic replicated OpenAI's work, yet struggled with managing the rate limits.

Although Anthropic’s latest subscription level appears positive, particularly for heavy users, several customers are not satisfied with the plan’s speed restrictions. At present, subscribers can only have up to 50 sessions per month, where each session equals five hours of usage.
The session begins immediately when a user sends a message to Claude. Notably, if you send a message to the chatbot within 5 hours of your initial interaction, it will be considered part of the same session. If more than 5 hours pass since your last interaction before sending another message, it will start a new session.
This might be Anthropic’s effort to generate more enthusiasm for its AI tool; however, users aren’t buying into it. People expressed their dissatisfaction and letdown on the r/ClaudeAI subreddit regarding the constraints of the Max plan, including its speed limits and various restrictions.
According to one user:
If you send one message in the morning, one at noon, and another in the evening, that counts as three sessions. Doing so for 16 days will result in limitations. Describing this as subpar would be generous. I’m opting out of this. And I’ll leave the subreddit too. I’ve had enough of Claude.
A different user expressed their frustration in a more inventive way:
Hello! We’ve observed that you have funds remaining in your bank account, and we want to assist with that. Introducing our new “Boost Your Credit Limit” program today!
By opting for the Max plan, you will experience significantly increased opportunities for being rate-limited precisely when you desperately require access to Claude. For $100 per month, anticipate five times the level of letdown compared to the Pro plan; at $200 monthly, prepare yourself for twentyfold the irritation. You'll have the privilege of being one of the initial customers to voice complaints regarding our cutting-edge Claude functionalities. Plus, enjoy greater freedom to deplete your funds as your urgency escalates.
Your greatest thoughts should be disrupted as they unfold. We look forward to seeing the innovative solutions you come up with when the Max plan ultimately falls short for you as well!
After Anthropics' introduction of the Max plan, certain Pro subscribers have apparently encountered issues. a degraded user experience , indicating that they are hitting their rate limits faster than before. It'll be interesting to see if the company will attract more interest with its new Max plan or if it will drive its user base to rivals.
