Angel Reese teases joining Wayans family sitcom, ‘Poppa’s House’

Angel Reese was surprised this week to learn she had recently joined the universe of CBS sitcom “Poppa’s House,” starring Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr.

And the former LSU star, a leader on the Lady Tigers’ 2023 national championship team, teased during a social-media conversation with Kim Wayans the potential of a bigger role in the show’s next season.

“Jeez, my celebrity crush in Angel Reese,” Damon Jr.’s character, Junior, admitted to his wife during Episode 16, which aired Monday, in a reference that become a running conversation piece of the episode.

When pointed out to Reese on social media, she remembered having met members of the show during an offseason visit to Los Angeles.

Kim, who wrote or directed six of the 18 first-season episodes, responded with messages of “I was bummed I missed you that day #Tallgirlpower” and “If we get a second season of #PoppasHouse, Jr’s fantasy crush is gonna have to come thru!”

“Let’s consider it DONE,” Reese said.

Reese is presently getting ready for her sophomore season with the Chicago Sky following being selected as the franchise’s seventh overall pick in last year’sWNBA draft.

The player from Maryland first joined the local Lady Terps after graduating from high school in 2020 as a well-regarded recruit and participant in the McDonald's All-America Game. During her two years competing in the Big Ten, she received honors for both all-freshman team and all-defensive team.

However, the 6-foot-3 forward moved to LSU in 2022 and witnessed her reputation grow significantly both on and off the court throughout the championship-winning season, which was the first of her two-year tenure in Baton Rouge.

Reese earned more than a half-dozen All-America selections in purple and gold and 2024 SEC Player of the Year honors among some of the highlights of her decorated tenure.

During this time, she emerged as one of the country’s leading figures and top earners in the new age of collegiate athletics, which permits student-athletes to profit from their names, images, and likenesses (NIL).

Reese has taken her achievements from both basketball and business to new heights, securing spots as an WNBA All-Rookie team member and multiple times as an All-Star. She’s also signed endorsement contracts with numerous brands and been featured in various publications. Additionally, she made appearances in a collaboration between Latto and Cardi B for their music video and starred in a six-episode series on Amazon Prime titled "The Money Game: LSU." Her ongoing visibility in mainstream media further cements her status in pop culture.

What about making a guest appearance on a network primetime sitcom that was both created and headlined by multiple members of the Wayans clan, who have long been fixtures in the realms of entertainment and humor?
