Aimee Lou Wood Opens Up About Her Journey: Diagnosed with ADHD and Autistic Traits

British actress Aimee Lou Wood she mentioned she received a diagnosis of ADHD accompanied by autistic traits.

The Stockport-born star, 31, is known for HBO’s dark comedy The White Lotus and Netflix hit Sex Education.

Wood informed The Sunday Times, "A few years back, I was diagnosed with ADHD along with some autistic characteristics."

“But then it’s been advised that I should go for an autism assessment.

“They think that maybe it’s autism that’s leading the charge, and the ADHD is almost a by-product of the masking.”

She is among those who have been diagnosed as neurodivergent after childhood, with British star Bella Ramsey recently revealing they learned they had autism after filming season one of apocalyptic HBO Display "The Last of Us."

Wood mentioned that as a child, she was "practically speechless, extremely socially anxious," and "unable to sit and have a meal" due to her condition.

She similarly informed the publication that she experienced "a significant sense of vulnerability following 'Sex Education'," as she believed she was involved in more exposed nude scenes compared to her peers who were starting their acting careers at a similar age.

Nevertheless, the actress mentioned she wasn’t worried about her intimate scenes in The White Lotus, as she had "very supportive conversations" with her co-actresses which left her feeling “not so isolated.”

Wood stated: "In my youth, when I was grappling with issues related to my diet, the thought of exposing my body used to be my biggest fear."

“But I’d worked through that stuff — and then I was back to covering up.

I reflect back and realize there were many aspects of how I began to depersonalize my sexuality.

Occasionally, you might feel like slipping into a seductive gown and playing the role of a siren, yet I chose not to.

Wood has appeared in the BBC comedy series "DaddyIssues" and took on the role of Sally Bowles in the 2023 production of "Cabaret." Her outstanding performance earned her the prize for Best Takeover Performance at the 2024WhatsOnStage Awards.
