Administration: New UI Health Care Campus Could Retain More Local Medical Professionals

NORTH LIBERTY, Iowa (KCRG) – The University of Iowa has labeled the inauguration of a new medical facility as "historical."

On Friday morning, the University of Iowa Health Care conducted a ribbon-cutting event to mark the opening of its new facility in North Liberty. The site is scheduled to commence operations on Monday, April 28, 2025.

They anticipate not just an increase in job prospects, but also both short-term and long-term care services for present and future patients.

"This increase in capacity along with the downtown campus truly enables us to see more patients who are being referred to us," stated UIHC CEO Brad Haws.

A significant part of this expansion focuses on the orthopedic sector. This 469,000-square-foot building features an orthopedic surgery center along with both inpatient and outpatient facilities. Additionally, it houses a walk-in clinic dedicated to treating orthopedic injuries, which operates during evening hours and weekends.

"This facility introduces an unprecedented standard of all-encompassing orthopedic care that was previously unattainable within this state," stated Dr. Denise Jamieson, dean of the UI Carver College of Medicine.

The administration is optimistic that relocating these new additions might draw more visitors to the region, which could subsequently assist in filling every role at the facility.

I've been informed by one of our community leaders that this institution has helped bring her brother back to Iowa to work here," stated UI President Dr. Barbara Wilson. "Our current focus is not just providing patient care, but also luring talented professionals back to ensure we can address the healthcare requirements for the whole state.
